Indiana ODP Stars
Indiana Youth Soccer and colleges/universities and high schools throughout the state of Indiana will be working together to provide this opportunity for players ages 8-14 (Not in high school) years of age. Players must be at least 8 years of age to participate.
This program is open to any child age 8-14 (Not in high school). These skill sessions will take place at participating college campuses throughout the state of Indiana. Each college/university or high school soccer program that is participating will select 2-4 days/nights for players to come and work on a different skill each time either before or after one of their matches. The four skills that will be the focus are:
1. Dribbling, 2. Juggling, 3. Receiving, 4. Passing
These skills day/nights will be either conducted by the college/high school program's coaching staff or a member of Indiana Youth Soccer's ODP or coaching education staff. These clinics are approximately 45 minutes in length with the sole purpose of teaching players how to get better at the four skills above at home.
The purpose of this program are the following:
- To promote individual skill development for players 8-14 (not in high school) years of age.
- To encourage players to practice on their own. The coaches will focus on how you can develop in each of these four skills at home.To promote college and university soccer programs throughout the state of Indiana.
- It is important that players see soccer at a higher level.
Players that attend all four sessions will receive an award and be acknowledged at Indiana Youth Soccer's AGM. Players must pre-register via the website under ODP at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled date.

Winter Skills Session Update
The Friday, January 30 winter skills session will run on a different schedule from the rest of the sessions. For this session only, U12 and keepers and field players will train together from 6:00p - 7:00p, and U9 - U11 keepers and field players will train together from 7:00p - 8:00p. Both sessions are at Metro Sports Center as usual.
Indiana State Tournament Registration
Applications for the Indiana State Cup and Challenge Cup competitions are now being taken. Deadline for State Cup registration is Friday, January 16, 2009 and the Challenge Cup is Friday, February 6, 2009. Visit Indiana Youth Soccer for details and to apply.
Entry Level Referee Classes
Registrations are being taken for Grade 8, entry level referee classes to be held on the following dates
- January 30 through February 1. Times are
Friday, January 30, 5:30 to 10 PM; Saturday, January 31, 8 AM to 5 PM; Sunday, February 1, 9 AM to 2 PM. The class will be held at the Ohio Township Fire Department in Newburgh, Meeting Room, 4333 Epworth Rd. in Newburgh. Take IN SR 66, Lloyd Expressway. to Epworth Road and turn south on Epworth Road. The fire station is just behind the Welborn Clinic building. The meeting room is at the rear of the fire station.
- February 20, 21 & 22, Lincoln High School, Hart Street, Vincennes
- February 27, 28 and March 1 at Old National Bank, 1 Main St. Evansville.
- March, 6, 7 & 8, Medical Arts Building, 721 West 13th St. Jasper

New Board of Directors Seated, Hollen Replaces Williams as President
SWISA is pleased to announce the new Board of Directors for the 2008-09 season. Brad Hollen has been elected as the new President, replacing Mike Williams who served in that position for the previous 8 years. Mike will remain on the board in a different position for the coming year. During his tenure Mike oversaw the growth of our club from 11 to 32 teams and the developmental and competitive level of our players and team increase dramatically.
The SWISA 2008-09 Board is listed below. While the President's position has been filled, the remainder of the positions on the board will be filled with the individuals listed below at our October Board meeting. Congratulations to our new members and again, thanks to Mike Williams for his untiring service and commitment to the club during his tenure as President.

Indiana Youth Soccer Competition Summit
Indiana Youth Soccer is hosting a Competition Summit on Sunday September 21, 2008 in Newburgh. This meeting is part of a series being held to discuss topics such as - what are the best dates for league play, for State and Challenge Cup, for club tryouts, tournaments, how would a change in league or cup play affect these tournaments, and much more. Competitive soccer calendars are becoming tighter and more difficult to manage. Indiana Youth Soccer is holding an open forum discussion to brainstorm possible solutions.
This meetings is open to all Indiana Youth Soccer tournament directors, DOC's, club/team administrators, coaches, managers, referees, and parents. This is an opportunity for those from the south to attend a state meeting being held closer to home and provide input on these very important topics.

This is a new program starting in the fall of 2008. All _Stars_ sessions, with the exception of Saint Joseph_s College, will be done either before or after a match. Participants will receive FREE admission to watch the college soccer match. The four skills that will be the focus are: Dribbling, Juggling, Receiving, and Passing. These skills day/nights will be either conducted by the college program's coaching staff or a member of Indiana Youth Soccer's ODP or coaching education staff.

A Successful First Year for Football Mania Fundraiser.
This was the first year for the SWISA Football Mania Fundraiser and it was a success. A total of 422 of the $20 tickets were sold! The 38 participating families were able raise an eye popping $4,220 toward their costs for the upcoming season. On top of the money raised for their individual families, they were also able raise $1,443 for the club to better improve their playing experience. The SWISA Board thanks all those that helped with the fundraiser and say job well done to those that participated. SWISA hopes that next year’s fundraiser is an even bigger success. Good luck to the ticket holders and hope we produce some large winners.
Free Training with SWISA
The SWISA coaching staff will conduct free training sessions every Sunday in September for players ages U5 - U10 interested in travel soccer and not already committed to another soccer club. There is no registration or cost. Just come out and have some fun playing with our excellent coaching staff. Sessions will be held at the dates, times, and locations listed below...

SWISA Day at U.S.I.
Sunday, September 21 is SWISA Day at the University of Southern Indiana, with both the men's and women's team hosting Missouri-St.Louis. SWISA players will participate in pre-game scrimmages beginning at 10:00 a.m. The men's game begins at noon and the women's game at 2:30 p.m. All SWISA players and families are encouraged to attend!
SWISA Days at the University of Evansville
The University of Evansville soccer teams are hosting SWISA Soccer Days, Sunday, September, 14 and Tuesday, September 16 at Black Beauty field. On Sunday the U.E. men host Valparaiso at 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday the women host the University of Kentucky at 7:00 p.m.

Uniform Fitting Session, Saturday, July 26
9:00am to 10:00am - Jersey Swap @ Epworth
All managers should bring their jerseys from this past season to Epworth at 9:00am. If you can not make it, please send a team representative or drop off your jerseys with Kim Kixmiller or a board member at Street Soccer on July 16 or 23. You should have already washed the jerseys and examined them for any needed repairs. If numbers need to be reaffixed (they are starting to fall off), please have this done at ShirTails prior to July 26. On the 26th, you will receive your jerseys for the coming season. Each Manager should examine the set they have inherited and work with Kim to identify any repairs or replacements needed.

Lady Courage Win Sportsmanship Award

Scholarship Winners Announced
There winners of the 2008 Jim Cassaro Scholarships are Mitch Day of Memorial High School, and Cecily Cunningham of Castle High School. Mitch played for SWISA through his U14 season, and Cecily has played for SWISA the past six seasons. Mitch and Cecily will be recognized at our annual picnic later this summer and will have their names added to our plaque honoring all of our scholarship winners.

New Women's Professional League
The new women's professional soccer league, to be named Women's Professional Soccer (WPS), unveiled its logo and introduced its web site www.womensprosoccer.com at the NSCAA Convention February 15 in Baltimore. The league, which will begin play with seven teams including one in St. Louis, will debut in the spring of 2009.
